Peter Ballantyne Child & Family Services Inc. (PBCFSI) is looking for highly motivated individuals for the position of Kitchen Helper for the PBCFSI Therapeutic Group Care Facility. Kitchen Helper’s ensure to perform all washing, cleaning and basic meal preparation duties required in our kitchen.

 

Under the supervision of the Professional Chef, the Kitchen Helper is responsible for:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing all meal preparation areas as well as kitchen walls, stoves, sinks, ovens, and grills.
  • Washing dirty dishes, cutting boards, utensils, and Kitchen Helper equipment.
  • Assisting the Chef with basic food preparation, which includes washing, peeling, and cutting meal ingredients as per the Chef’s instructions.
  • maintaining household standards relating to the quality of the food and household supplies.
  • Acting as a parent/guardian for the children in the facility by ensuring that quality care is provided by means of teaching, setting limits and priorities and following routines within the kitchen area.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of basic food preparation techniques.
  • Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around.
  • Sorting and storing all supplies in appropriate areas.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education and two years` experience in the provision of services in the tourism, hospitality and service industry. Experience in youth care work, child care work and or other related human services experience would be considered an asset.
  • A food handler’s license.
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Knowledge of the Woodland Cree culture and language and the political and social objectives of
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a community-based organization
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must have a valid driver´s license
  • Must be willing to undertake a drug test if requested
  • Demonstrated healthy lifestyle through role modeling
